Warfighters Put Politics Aside -- 200 U.S. and Russian army officers
working together at a damp and chilly Grafenwöhr last week, relations
were apparently warm and sunny. "I used to think Americans were quite

Russian Lt. Gen. Vladimir Chirkin said through an interpreter. "We could
have turned our backs to each other and insulted each other for years,
but why choose that?" The two-week exercise was called Torgau. According
to V Corps, the exercise's objectives were to promote understanding and
cooperation between the countries' military forces; to develop common
formats for reports, orders and briefings; and to train together, using
virtual troops on computers for peacekeeping and enforcement missions.

Tries To Scare People Away From Stevia -- The FDA is protecting
Americans from a natural sweetener, Stevia, because of unnamed,
unspecific health concerns. The FDA issued a warning to Hain Celestial
Group Inc. for using Stevia, an herbal sweetener, in its herbal tea. It
was a letter to Hain that said, "data and information necessary to
support the safe use have been lacking.” The FDA did not cite any
specific literature but did say the literature that was attained warned,
"about control of blood sugar, and the effects on the reproductive,
cardiovascular and renal systems.” Coincidentally, Coca-Cola and Pepsi
have both been having a fond interest of stevia, and have yet to receive
a letter from the FDA about using it.

$1 Billion In Military Equipment Missing In Iraq -- Tractor
trailers, tank recovery vehicles, crates of machine guns and rocket
propelled grenades are just a sampling of more than $1 billion in
unaccounted for military equipment and services provided to the Iraqi
security forces, according to a new report issued today by the Pentagon
Inspector General and obtained exclusively by the CBS News investigative
unit. Auditors for the Inspector General reviewed equipment contracts
totaling $643 million but could only find an audit trail for $83

the report found that about 30% of young adults between the ages of 18
and 24 do not have a usual source of
medical care, 30% lack health insurance and 10% of adults between the
ages of 45 and 64 do not have a usual source of medical care.

warns about bed-wetting drug Desmopressin after two deaths -- U.S.
health officials alerted the public on Tuesday about the deaths of two
patients who were treated with a prescription drug to control
bed-wetting. Desmopressin is sold under the names DDAVP Nasal Spray,
DDAVP Rhinal Tube, DDVP, Minirin and Stimate Nasal Spray. Makers include
Sanofi-Aventis and several generic companies.

sounds alarm on infant formula cans -- The Environmental Working
Group, an advocacy and research organization, says in a new report
released to CNN that liquid formula from the nation's top baby formula
makers is sold in cans lined with bisphenol-A, or BPA. The formula
makers acknowledge the presence of BPA, but say it is not harmful. The
Food and Drug Administration agrees.
